Next year we are hoping to develop more vegetables with the addition of a new raised bed and a rose arch for climbers and ramblers. We may have to put a membrane down to suppress the weeds and pea shingle to protect from moisture. We also hope to cultivate our own compost soon with a gift of a compost maker from Sandra Taylors Mum and Dad. We are also looking at planting a plum and pear tree.
So as you can see our gardening group have been very busy and we are looking at another busy year ahead.

As you probably know March, April and May are the busiest months of the gardening year. We were very nearly beaten by the extrmemely cold winter of 2010/2011. But, at last Spring came in and what a Spring it was, so warm and sunny and we got to plant seeds for broad beans, runner beans, peas, tomatoes, cucumber, courgettes, beetroot, peppers, chilli peppers, brocolli, sweetcorn, cauliflower, curly kale and herbs.
Most seeds germinated and grew well and in fact we supplied our kitchen with some potatoes, peas, beans, kale, courgettes, tomatoes, peppers. Sweetcorn still to be harvested. I have found a new use for tomato food -" Our apple tree" loads of massive cooking apples this year. Not to forget the beautiful floral wheelbarrow, the memory garden plot, the wildflower patch and the greenhouse.

In March 2010 I joined Liverpool Football Club Disabled Team known as Respect for All.
I go training on a Tuesday evening. I do circuit training and tactics. On Wednesday evenings training session we work on fitness, co-ordination and team work and also have a practice match. Every six weeks I play at Preston in the league and I am very proud that we won the Northwest Disabled Football Cup. On 6th July I went to a celebration evening with my wife Winnie to receive my medal.
Since playing football I feel much fitter and healthier. I have also made a lot of new friends. They also have social nights which i am able to take Winnie along with me. She enjoys coming to watch me train. We have also been to Liverpool FC for a dinner dance where i had the opportunity to meet Steven Gerrare and Fernando Torres but this was befor Torres left Liverpool. On 9th July i attended another dinner dance with Winnie and my friend Matty Adeniran, we had a great night and recieved another medal for winning the league.

I had a really good day out at Megga Bowl with other residents Kevin Pollock, Winnie Pollock and Trisha Jenner. I found it quite hard at first to get used to giving the ball a really good push but soon got the hang of it. We had a good game with Kevin Pollock winning with his own bowling ball KP Nuts. Afterwards we had a drink and a chat in the bar before returning home.

As a Care Ambassador we went to St Helens College to interview and talk to unemployed people who have an interest in working in care.
We also did a talk to other people with disabilities and their carers, this experience made me realise how more advanced our opportunities are at Mayfield Court. Plans for people in care homes to have the opportunity to be involved in recruitment of staff in their home by taking part in the interview process were talked about, this made me realise that at Mayfield we have been interviewing new staff for a good few years now.
I am very proud to be able to tell people that what they are planning we already have in place and share with them the qualities of what we do and how involved we are.
